Current regulatory actions may require structured monitoring programs for irrigation return flows and stormwater runoff from agricultural lands (Ag Waiver Monitoring). For example, under California’s Irrigated Lands Conditional Waiver Program, agricultural coalition groups or individual dischargers are required to develop monitoring programs tailored to their return flows and stormwater runoff, including data collection for pesticides, metals and minerals, nutrients, pathogens, and aquatic and sediment toxicity.
