Biological and Habitat Assessment of Central Coast Agriculture-Dominated Waterbodies
Pacific EcoRisk was selected to mange all aspects of the bioassessment and habitat monitoring for the Central Coast Cooperative Monitoring Program to meet the requirements of the CCRWQCB Agriculture Waiver Program. PER worked closely with CCRWQCB staff to select appropriate methods for agriculture-dominated waterbodies, and is responsible for providing the sampling plan, deploying field crews to collect the samples following the CSBP three transect multi-habitat method for wadeable streams, managing the data from the taxonomy laboratory, and preparing a report for submittal to the CCRWQCB.

Sacramento Stormwater Program Bioassessment Studies
The City and County of Sacramento selected Pacific EcoRisk to provide all services related to meeting their bioassessment and habitat monitoring requirements specified in their Stormwater NPDES permit. PER negotiated the study scope with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) and the California Department of Fish and Game, performed the site reconnaissance, generated the sampling study plan, and is responsible for providing all sampling and project management services. PER collected the samples following the EMAP-level 11 transect multi-habit method for wadeable streams. PER analyzed the data and generated an annual report for submittal to the CVRWQCB.

Biological Assessment of Aquatic Habitats Receiving Pesticide Applications
Pacific EcoRisk has provided sampling for both habitat assessment and the collection of benthic macroinvertebrates from a wide variety of lotic habitats receiving pesticide applications for control of invasive plants and macrophytes. Sampling methods followed both the California Stream Bioassessment Protocol for lotic systems.

Biological Assessment of a Zinc Contaminated Foothill Stream
Pacific EcoRisk designed and managed a TRIAD study (i.e., chemistry, toxicology, and bioassessment) region of Miner’s Ravine (Placer County, CA) contaminated by zinc. PER sampled the area following the 3-transect method for high-gradient streams. The study required coordination of sampling efforts as well as data sharing between PER and the CVRWQCB staff, and resulted in a presentation at a national conference.

Biological Assessment of a Creek Associated with a Superfund Site
As part of an ecological risk assessment for a Superfund site on Putah Creek, Pacific EcoRisk proposed a biological assessment sampling regime for soft-bottom habitat, collected biological assessment samples, and performed a habitat assessment to support the data interpretation.

Biological Assessment of a Wastewater Treatment Canal
As part of a sediment study required by the Department of Toxic Substances Control, Pacific EcoRisk proposed a sediment sampling and biological assessment regime for a non-wadeable soft-bottom habitat, collected biological assessment samples using a dredge grab device, and performed a habitat assessment to support the data interpretation.
